Christmas Shopping at The Promenade Shops at Saucon Valley

It’s never too early to be thinking about your holiday shopping, especially now that the season is just around the corner. If you’re coming to visit us here at the Sayre Mansion not only are we looking forward to your visit, but we want to help alleviate some of that holiday season stress. Luckily the Promenade Shops at Saucon Valley are the perfect place to get your Christmas shopping underway. Just a ten minute drive from your cozy room at Sayre, the Promenade Shops will have something for everyone you’re shopping for this holiday season.

For Your Sweetheart

Whether your married or not, finding that perfect gift for your honey can be stressful! You need to be thoughtful, but not obsessed. The gift should to be meaningful, but not cheesy; significant, but not over-the-top. Consider treating your beloved to some spa time with a Hand & Stone gift card for a massage or facial. Nothing says “I love you” like caring for overworked bodies with a little pampering. The spa has locations nationwide, so don’t worry if you’re not from the area.

For the Kids

Get the kiddos some new school clothes, or a party outfit at Gap Kids and Gap Baby. For the pickier teens, grab a gift card and let them pick something themselves. Or maybe they’ve been asking for the newest mobile phone model, which you can pick up at The Wireless Experience for an awesome Christmas surprise. Journey’s is also a great bet for adolescents. They carry the newest footwear styles geared towards this age group.

For the In-laws

Perhaps the most dreaded shopping category, there is no need to fret about what to get the people who have everything. Something small and thoughtful will usually do the trick. Top Shelf adult beverages make great holiday gifts. In the season of parties and family gatherings it’s always nice to have a few bottles of something special around, and they are also very easy thing to re-gift. Pick up a nice case of imported wine form Wine & Spirits Premium Collections and your selection won’t go to waste.

For the Coworkers

The Holiday Season is a great time to show appreciation for the people you spend most of your time around. A little gift can go a long way in workplace camaraderie. Yankee Candle is a great place to get a little something for your mates at work. Candles are a lovely holiday treat while people have more time to sit at home with a good book. For something a little more fun head to GO! Calendars, Games, and Toys and buy some fun new office calendars for 2015. Nothing says Happy New Year like a fresh calendar.

While Christmas shopping can seem dreary, consider it an annual opportunity to show the people in your life how much you care. Spending a few hours at the Promenade Shops at Saucon Valley while in town with us at the Sayre Mansion this fall will take a lot of anxiety out of the gift-giving process. The Promenade Shops are a convenient one-stop-shop for the holiday season. Come back to us at the Sayre Mansion for some R and R when you’ve put a dent in your list.

PeepsfestBethlehem, PA is definitely the Christmas City, but that doesn’t mean that once that holiday passes, we’re done celebrating! On the contrary, we keep the festivities up all year long, and at the end of December, Peepsfest is the way locals and visitors of Bethlehem like to say goodbye to the old year and kick off the new. Just Born Candy, headquartered in Bethlehem and makers of favorite candies like Mike and Ikes, Hot Tamales, Peanut Chews, and of course Peeps, sponsor this yearly event and we know you’ll enjoy it as much as we at the Sayre Mansion do!

Peepsfest 2014

This year’s Peeps Fest will be a two day festival full of fun for “children” of all ages. Competitions, live entertainment, sweet treats, and a 5k race all add up to a memorable yearly celebration of everybody’s favorite marshmallow candy.  Peeps Fest 2014 will be held on December 30th and 31st at the Bethlehem Steelstacks campus.  This year’s Peepsfest promises to live up to the fun memories created in years past.

Peepsfest Activities

Peepsfest plays host to a wide variety of entertainment options each year. Live music, magicians, Clowns, and educational programs for children have been great parts of Peepsfests of previous years.  Both days will feature different schedules of entertainment and demonstrations, so check back to make sure you plan ahead so you don’t miss out on any of the fun.  In past years, one of the memorable parts of this sweet event has been the Peeps Breakfast with the iconic Peeps mascots.  You should be prepared though, the breakfast selection is not entirely marshmallow-based!  But, if your sweet tooth must be satisfied, then you won’t be disappointed.  S’mores, sundaes, creative deserts, and more will be served.  And of course there will be tons of opportunity to enjoy Peeps on their own as well as other Just Born candies.

And if you’ve always loved the bright colors and whimsical qualities of Peeps candies, then you’ll love browsing the student-made pieces at the Peeps Diorama Competition.  The competition is open to local students and the creations they come up with are truly inspiring and entertaining!  The entire event culminates in the drop of the 4.5 foot tall lighted Peeps Chick, complete with a fireworks display.  We may be biased but we think our Chick is way more fun than the ball in Times Square!

On New Years Day, the Peepsfest 5k has been a wonderful way to kick off the New Year in a healthy way.  The race winds through downtown and is fun to watch and participate in. So if you’re a runner, start prepping for the Peepsfest 5k!

Peepsfest Accommodations

When you plan your visit to Peepsfest 2014, or any Bethlehem celebration, be sure to book your accommodations at our boutique hotel.  The Sayre Mansion is located in the heart of Bethlehem, and has strong ties to the city’s history.  Old world elegance meets modern convenience in our beautiful guest rooms and suites.  Luxury amenities like plush towels, fine linens, and more await you after a day enjoying the charms of Bethlehem.  Each morning you’ll be treated to a delicious breakfast made onsite, so you don’t have to start the day off hungry! And our gracious and knowledgeable staff will help to ensure your experience is enjoyable and memorable! We can’t wait to have you with us soon!

Christkindlmarkt BethlehemBethlehem, PA is known as the Christmas City, and it’s easy to tell why.  In addition to sharing a name with the site of the first Christmas, Bethlehem pulls out all the stops when it comes to the holiday season. The late fall and winter are packed full of special events, performances, and more to celebrate this magical time of year.  One of the most exciting things about the Christmas City during the season is the Christkindlmarkt Bethlehem.  Located on the SteelStacks campus, Christkindlmarkt Bethlehem is minutes from the Sayre Mansion. This extravagant Christmas market encapsulates the feeling of Christmastime with gifts, decorations, food, music and general revelry.  If you’ve never been to one of these special markets, then read about what the Christkindlmarkt Bethlehem offers and start getting into the spirit of things!

What is a Christkindlmarkt?

If you’re unfamiliar with the term, you might be asking yourself just a what a Christkindlmarkt.  For starters the word looks unpronounceable and heavy on consonants.  Christkindlmarkt is simply the German term for “Christmas market” or “Christmas fair.”  These traditional holiday markets began in Germany, Austria, Northern Italy, and parts of France dating back to the later part of the Middle Ages.  These fairs typically celebrate the Christmas season during the four weeks of Advent.  Along with hand crafted gifts and decor, other seasonal attractions are included in Christkindlmarkts like a Nativity Scene, holiday music performances, and traditional food booths. Christkindlmarkt Bethlehem is one of the best fairs of this kind in the world and offers all of the above with the addition of our Bethlehem’s signature charm.

What to Expect at the Christkindlmarkt Bethlehem

This year’s Christkindlmarkt will take place on weekends (Thursday – Sunday) beginning November 20th and ending December 21st.  As one of the best Christmas markets in the country, Christkindlmarkt Bethlehem has everything a traditional fair of its kind has along with special aspects unique to Bethlehem. There will be aisle upon aisle of goods from local and national artisans that will include the perfect gifts for loved ones as well as that special decoration that will complete your homes holiday transformation.  One of the most fascinating and unique parts of the market is the glassblowing booth where you can watch masterpieces be made or even create your own blown glass ornament! As you walk the market you can enjoy the sounds of live Christmas music and stop off for a delicious snack or meal from one of the great vendors at the fair. Along with the market, the Christmas City will have special Christmas events like carriage rides, tours and strolls as well as historical and heritage demonstrations throughout town.
