About the Mayfair Festival of the Arts

The Mayfair Festival of the Arts is an annual event that has been part of the social schedule in Allentown since 1986. The mission of the festival is to educate the general public about different forms of art and inspire visitors to create their own works. This festival sets itself apart from other festivals by including a wide range of art genres, making them accessible to those in the Lehigh Valley community. The Mayfair Festival of the Arts always takes place at the end of May. The 2018 Mayfair Festival of the Arts will be hosted by Cedar Crest College during Memorial Day weekend, Friday, May 25 to Sunday, May 27. Admission to the festival is totally free!

Activities at Mayfair Festival of the Arts

The sheer variety of artistic endeavors presented at the Mayfair Festival of the Arts is one of the things that makes it a worthwhile event to participate. In past years, there has been an Artist Market featuring more than 100 local artisans. Typically, the market features pottery, fiber arts, woodworking, glass, jewelry, drawings, photography and much more. There have also been areas for children’s art, known as KidSpace, as well as an area experimental art forms, called the Pig Pen. One of the highlights of the event has been the Gallery at Mayfair, which is a juried art exhibition.

Visual art is not the only art form celebrated during Mayfair Festival of the Arts. In previous years, there was an impressive schedule of live music on multiple stages on the festival site. Music from bluegrass, classical, jazz, blues, reggae, rock, country and dance musicians plays throughout the grounds. Of course, there are usually plenty of food options from a variety of vendors whose offerings range from classic festival fare to gourmet treats.
