Visit the Museum of Indian Culture in Allentown

The Museum of Indian Culture, also known as the Lenni Lenape Historical Society, was founded in 1980 and has been a staple in the community ever since. This member-supported, non-profit organization is dedicated to teaching visitors about the history of this nation’s First Peoples, as well as showcasing modern Native American traditions. The exhibits in the museum are often interactive, allowing children to see and touch tools like gourd rattles, a pump drill, or a small atlatl (a spear thrower). Visitors to the museum are treated to guided tours, giving an in-depth look at the cultures featured.

From September through May, the museum is open Friday to Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. From June to August, it is open Thursday through Sunday, with the same hours. Admission is just $5 for adults and $4 for children and seniors. Kids aged 11 and younger get in for free.

Attend the Roasting Ears of Corn Festival

The Museum of Indian Culture also hosts the oldest Native American festival in PA! The Roasting Ears of Corn Festival is held each year in mid-August. The Festival treat guests to Native American cooking and flintknapping demonstrations, as well as elaborate exhibits. There are performances of traditional dances and music, as well as a marketplace with authentic Native American jewelry, fine art, and clothing. The food is always incredible, with buffalo burgers, frybread, stews, and the famous fire-roasted corn! This festival is an especially great event for families with young children. They’ll love weaving dreamcatchers or making sand art at the crafts station. Admission is just $8 for adults and $5 for seniors and children ages eight to 17.
