Here’s all you need to know about Musikfest, the summer’s biggest Bethlehem music festival!
Musikfest is a 10-day celebration of live music, intriguing art and delicious food held each year in early August. In 1984, the Fest started as a small local festival and has grown into a major event that attracts over one million visitors from across the country. In 2011, the Musikfest spread to Bethlehem’s South Side and is now a two-campus event.
This amazing summer fest is the largest free music festival in the nation. If that’s not enough to convince you to join in on the fun, here are a few more reasons! This huge Bethlehem music festival will open the 14 stages on August 4, where more than 500 free performances will take place. The stages are scattered throughout the city’s street, parks, plazas and historic areas! The festival also features 60 vendors offering a variety of scrumptious eats, 45 of the nation’s finest artisans, numerous fun children’s activities, a colorful fireworks display, and more.
The layout of the Bethlehem music festival can be a bit overwhelming for first-timers, especially since the events spread over two locations. If you are new to the festival, your best bet is to grab a map and performance schedule as soon as you arrive (or print one here). Festival sites are divided by “platz” which is the German word for “place”. Find the artist you want to jam out to on the schedule and then refer to the map to find out how to get to the correct platz. If you are on a time crunch, jump on one of the shuttle buses that run between the north and south side venues for a $2 fee (children are free). To kill time between performances, stroll the mile long walk between the two venues along Bethlehem’s historic streets. The most direct and beautiful route is over the Philip J. Fahy Bridge.
The Festplatz, located on the festival’s north side, is one of the largest dining areas, featuring plenty of diverse food stands and about 300 tables for dining. Musikfest offers a wide variety of ethnic food options for guests to enjoy!
From Bach to bluegrass and rock to reggae, you are sure to find something that catches your ear! Performers Jason Derulo, Weezer, Sheryl Crow, Keth Urban, The All-American Rejects, Steely Dan, The Moody Blues and more, will be bring you great music throughout the 10 day fest.
