What to Expect at the America on Wheels Museum

As soon as you walk into the lobby of the museum, you’ll be greeted by beautiful 1950s show cars with their long and sleek chrome exteriors. You’ll also find an array of vehicles that hold a special significance in history, such as hot rods, sports cars, and emergency vehicles. In the lobby’s interactive exhibit, guests can learn more about the museum, have pictures taken in the driver’s seat of an Indy racecar, and discover how vehicles have strengthened communities over the course of America’s history.

South Gallery

This gallery features an extensive collection of historic trucks produced by Mack Truck Inc., including three new antiques, one of the first models of an enclosed cab, and an array of motorized and self-propelled bikes. Feel free to practice your driving in the interactive exhibit, or test your knowledge about auto tools and their functions. To learn more about the company, be sure to check out the Mack Truck Museum just 15 minutes away!

North Gallery

In the North Gallery, guests can travel back in time and experience what life was like in our country many years ago. This exhibit spans over 150 years of history and showcases some of the first cars in America’s automobile inventory. Start with a look at the original horseless vehicle, invented in 1889, and travel along the timeline until you’re standing in front of the most recent options for transportation today. In the interactive exhibits, you can discover what the future plans are for vehicles in America and even design your own car!

Long Haul Room Art Gallery

Even those who don’t know the first thing about motor vehicles will find entertainment in this museum! The Long Haul Room houses the Guinness Advertising Art Exhibit, which displays original paintings used for the British automotive industry’s advertisements and posters. The posters were used after the war and date all the way back to 1949.

Hubcap Cafe

Modeled after a classic 1950s drive-in cafe, the Hubcap serves ice cream cones, milkshakes, and even delicious soda floats! Guests can use the space for meetings, parties, or other events April through December.

America on Wheels Museum Events

Every year, several special events are held at the museum such as a heavy equipment petting zoo, “Car TUNES” Along the Waterfront, wine and chocolate tastings, a bulldog beauty contest, and more! Plus, the museum rotates some of their exhibits, so you’ll never have the same experience twice. Be sure to keep an eye out for specials including BOGO ticket deals, free senior tickets, and free ice cream from the Hubcap Cafe!
